Tree Removal

As certified ISA arborists, our skilled team at West Valley Arborists loves trees and we don’t like to remove them. Yet, dead or dying trees need to be removed as well as those that pose a hazard to people and structures. Homeowners who try to remove trees on their own face severe risk of injury. Tree removal is a dangerous job which requires experienced professionals to complete in a safe manner. Our team at West Valley Arborists will evaluate your tree and advise you on the best course of action for removal, always keeping safety as the top priority.

Why Do You Need to Remove a Tree?

Trees might need to be removed from your property for a variety of reasons, which include:

  • New construction: Vacant lots must have trees removed to prep the ground for new residential or commercial construction.
  • Competing flora: Sometimes a tree crowds out other plants or trees and needs to be removed so others can thrive.
  • Remodeling: Putting additions on commercial or residential property also requires tree removal.
  • Dead and dying trees: Removing trees at the end of their life cycle lets other plants and trees grow and prevents creating a hazardous situation.
  • Immediate hazards: When high winds and strong storms occur, trees might partially fall and create a hazardous situation requiring immediate removal.

Tree Removal Techniques

The experienced specialists at West Valley Arborists employ three different techniques for tree removal. The specific technique used hinges on the location of the tree and its size.

Felling a Tree: Felling an entire tree is typically the simplest way to remove a tree, but it doesn’t work well on small urban lots. To fell a tree, the cutter evaluates the drop and judges the lean and symmetry of the tree. Once the tree cutter determines the drop zone and the safety of the drop, a rope is tied to the top of the tree and a notch is cut in the trunk, to control the direct of the fall. When there isn’t enough room to safely drop a tree, our skilled team will use other methods.

Lowering the Tree in Sections: Trees which are near buildings, power lines, and other structures or hazards must be lowered in sections. After our experienced team evaluates the tree and makes a removal plan, a climber will head up the tree to central point where he can cut and lower tree limbs. Once limbs have been removed, he will cut the trunk in sections to be dropped to the ground or lowered carefully with ropes.

Crane Tree Removal: Large, mature trees which need to be removed require the use of a crane, the safest and most efficient method for the removal of large trees. Using a crane also requires a climber who attaches a cable and makes a cut. The crane operator carefully lifts cut sections of the tree away and swing it to the designated drop zone. Regardless of the method used, tree removal is dangerous. Only trained climbers and cutters who have experience should attempt to remove a tree. Inexperience and lack of training can easily lead to injury or death. The experienced team at West Valley Arborists put safety first to ensure anyone involved with the removal process avoids injury.

West Valley is great. I heard great things about them from San Jose. Thought they would be much more expensive. But their quote was less then most of the other companies. And they did a great job. Communication was great and they finished the job on time
